On March 8, 2004, the first employees were happy to leave their crowded temporary offices in the YBS building and the BTO and relocate to the brand new, bright rooms in D 700.
It was the first IPS facility that was handed over to BYC with a (roughly) 16.000 m2 area comprising of the three main parts: the office building with 4 floors, the central workshop for mechanical and electrical equipment as well as instruments, and the high rack warehouse.
Whereas the office building is finished with an attractive gray cladding with harmonizes well with the blue window frames, the workshop and warehouse walls are sheet metal painted in our "BYC blue".
The first residents had to suffer from some minor "teething problems". The central air condition unit could be switched on only a few weeks after they had moved in, but luckily well in advance of the hot summer season. Also occasionally a receptacle that was forgotten to hook up might still be found. But the overall feeling of the residents in their new working area is very good.
The ground floor of the office building includes the canteen - on operation since May 6 - the archive room for technical documents, offices, locker and shower rooms for future workshop people.
The second floor south wing is occupied by departments CTA "Electrical and Automation", and CTM "Mechanical Maintenance", with the north wing being reserved for colleagues from division CF, whom we are waiting for to move in.
The third floor is wholly taken by department CTE "Engineering, Planning and Development", whereas the fourth floor south wing houses CT and department CTS'HSE and Utilities'. The north side of the fourth floor is currently used as storage area for PPE. But this is just a temporary solution, since this area is foreseen for extension. Some potential contractors of BYC have shown interest and might lease some office space here in future.
In the central workshop area the big machine tools like lathes, milling and drilling machines, the welding exhaust hoods, etc. have already been installed and hooked up.
Three large traveling overhead cranes (each of them can lift up 30t) provide sufficient capacity to move heavy equipment or vessels in and out.
The warehouse offers 5600m2 storage space on high rise racks for all kinds of spare parts and technical goods for company's plants.
