From November 3 to 6, 2008, BASF-YPC Company Limited ("BYC"), together with its parental companies, BASF and SINOPEC, showcased solutions for sustainable urban living as an official sponsor for the Fourth Session of the World Urban Forum, hosted by the UN-Habitat and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Construction, the People’s Republic of China and undertaken by Nanjing Municipal Government, which was held at the Nanjing International Exhibition Center.
"As a leading joint venture that has been growing together with Nanjing over the past years, we think it's our responsibility to help make the city of Nanjing a better place to live,” said Dr. Bernd Blumenberg, President of BYC."Te event' theme, Harmonious Urbanization, closely aligns with the principles of sustainable development that both our parent companies uphold."
During the event, BYC will host a symposium focusing on Urban Construction and Mobility on November 4. Experts from BASF, Sinopec and the joint venture will share solutions and best practices with more than 100 participants from various schools, focusing on two major topics: Construction Energy Efficiency and Vehicles Emission Reduction. Both topics are at the top the agenda for the Central Government and local municipal government, as high-speed development of China' economy and fast urbanization have created a huge hunger for energy and at the same time affected the environment in an unprecedented way.
At a jointly hosted exhibition booth, the three companies will display the latest
construction materials, solutions and modern living concepts. “Behind the scenes, chemical industry is an important part of the solution to energy efficiency. Many of our chemical products make a significant contribution to energy efficiency and emission reduction," stressed Dr. Blumenberg. “We are glad to see the government taking the lead to achieve our mutual goals, and our company is eager to work together to do more in this field.”
